Jazz singer
London-born Jenny Evans, is a jazz singer, according to the experts, one of the best in Europe.
Jazz standards, hard bop titles by Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, Horace Silver, Sonny Rollins, Bobby Timmons and her own compositions are part of her repertoire. Whether swing or Latin rhythms, up-tempo scat tunes or ballads, Jenny Evans’ very personal interpretation of melody and the special charisma of her voice create a wide spectrum of vocal dynamics, ranging from fragile to aggressive. The subtle intensity of her ballads and the emotional honesty of her performance are particularly impressive. Her fascinating appearance and direct contact with the audience make Jenny Evan’s performance an unforgettable event.
Jenny Evans lives in Munich, Germany, where she ran her own jazz club for a number of years and where she was awarded the prestigious “Award for Interpretative Arts” by the town in 1987. She has appeared as a soloist and recorded with such jazz greats as Benny Bailey, Al Grey, Buddy Tate, Leo Wright, Dusko Goykovich and Gianno Basso. In 2016 she was awarded the “Munich Schwabing Arts Prize”.
“If there were something similar to a national jazz poll in Germany, Jenny Evans would certainly have been at the top of the female jazz vocal category for years. Her interpretations of great songs from jazz history have class.”
